Thomas Franks has expanded beyond the UK, working with existing and new clients to extend our services to their international offices. The result of this venture has seen the launch of Thomas Franks Portugal Ltd in June 2020.

Thomas Franks Portugal formally opened its first location in the country, St Julian’s School, Lisbon, on Monday 1st June 2020. As Thomas Franks expanded outside the UK, Portugal was always high on the list of countries in which we wished to open due to its rich and historic cuisine, superb seafood and outstanding produce.
The launch at St Julian’s was postponed due to COVID-19 but during the lockdown period the Thomas Franks Feeding Communities project worked with local suppliers and partners to deliver fruit and vegetable boxes to police, firefighters and community centres in the area. Frank Bothwell, our founder, is working closely with clients and suppliers to continue the food aid programme to tackle and alleviate food poverty.
We are already expanding our locations and partners in Portugal and look forward to continuing to build our like-minded community of clients and suppliers, working with the freshest local foods and our committed and hard-working team.

Local SuppliersWe hand-pick Portugese local suppliers to bring us the best of each season’s produce. We work in partnership to ensure that only the highest-quality, ethically produced ingredients reach our kitchens. We are a part of our clients' wider communities and it is important to us to source responsibly and discerningly, reducing food miles, food waste and our carbon footprint.
Our TeamsWe are proud to empower our chef managers to run their locations as if they were running their own restaurants, enabling them to develop fantastic relationships with our clients and to deliver outstanding food and service.
In 2005, Frank Bothwell and his wife, Emma Bothwell, set out to found a contract catering company with a difference. Focussing on freshly produced food cooked from high-quality, locally supplied ingredients, they quickly built a reputation for exceptional quality food and superb, personal service.
From the very beginning, Thomas Franks has been a company which focuses on people: our employees, clients, suppliers and partners. The business is firmly rooted in our values of family, friendship and trust.
Frank’s open-door approach has enabled him to remain fully hands-on as the company has grown over the past fifteen years. Thanks to the hard work of each and every individual who is part of the Thomas Franks team, the company has grown and expanded outside the UK, with operations in Malta, Portugal and Ireland.
Over the years we have stayed true to our original vision for the company: we are a legacy business, family owned and run. Thomas Franks has always been, and will always be, about family – ours and the ‘families’ of our partners.
Jon GrimaEuropean Chef Director Jon is integral to the success we have in Portugal, as well as being the European Chef Director he acts as our liaison between our clients making sure they get the same continuity as they do in the UK.
Our approach always focuses on Food, People, Creativity and Finance, and Portugal is no different. We are delighted to be producing healthy and nutritious food, tailored to Portuguese ingredients and tastes whilst reducing food miles, food waste and environmental impact.
